Wills & Estate Planning Lawyers in the Redlands – Meet Solicitor Gary Kliger

At Milana Law, we believe legal services should be personal, practical, and supportive. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we now provide Wills & Estate Planning Lawyers in the Redlands, and we welcome solicitor Gary Kliger bringing over 30 years of experience to our team.

Gary is known for his common sense approach to the law, making complex matters easier for clients to understand and act on. Below, he shares more about his background, his passion for wills, and why planning ahead is so important.

A Word from Gary

Hello, I’m Gary Kliger. Over the past three decades, I’ve worked in various areas, including wills and estates, estate planning, conveyancing and commercial law. My career has included senior roles at firms such as Priority Legal Services, where I was known for my work in wills, estates, leasing, and the purchase and sale of businesses.

I describe myself as a commercial lawyer with common sense at the centre of my approach.  To give you one example: in a business sale, a landlord’s solicitor once threatened to withhold consent for reasons that had nothing to do with the lease terms. I challenged it, pointed out the law, and the deal went through. For me, the law should solve problems, not create them.

These days, my focus is on wills and estate planning. I believe there’s no such thing as a “simple will.” Our lives are complicated — families change, assets grow, and tax structures are designed to maximise value while we’re alive. Without a will, everything you’ve built is left to a state formula that rarely reflects what you actually want for the people you love.

Out of hours, I’m also a theatre enthusiast. I act and direct in community plays, a passion that’s been with me for many years. It keeps me creative, grounded, and connected with people, which I believe helps me be a better lawyer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Wills in Queensland

1. Why do I need a will?

A will ensures your assets go to the people you choose. Without one, your estate is divided under Queensland’s Succession Act 1981 — and the outcome may not reflect your wishes.

2. What’s the difference between a will and an enduring power of attorney?

A will applies after you pass away. An enduring power of attorney allows someone you trust to make financial or healthcare decisions on your behalf while you’re alive but unable to act for yourself.

3. How often should I update my will?

It’s a good idea to review your will whenever life changes — such as marriage, separation, having children, buying property, or retiring.

4. Do I need probate in Queensland?

Probate is often needed to release assets such as bank accounts or property. It confirms the will’s validity and authorises the executor to administer the estate.

5. Can I exclude someone from my will?

You can, but some family members may be able to contest it. Obtaining the right legal advice can help you minimise the risk of disputes.
